UofL Equine Program Welcomes Researcher
Kentucky Ag Connection - 08/10/2018

The University of Louisville College of Business welcomed applied economist Steven Vickner to the faculty of the Equine Industry Program.

Vickner has most recently taught at Ohio Dominican University, where he was associate professor of business and director of the MBA program. His research focuses on the role of information and technology on economic decision-making, and he has done years of extensive work studying yearling thoroughbred prices.

"We are thrilled that Steven is joining our Equine Industry Program," said Terri Burch, interim director of the program. "He is very familiar with the work of our past researchers and will teach several classes, including Equine Economics and our capstone course, Enterprise Analysis."

Vickner will also help create course offerings for a new MBA Certificate in Horse Racing under development at UofL.

"It truly is an honor to be a faculty member in the Equine Industry Program, which is internationally recognized for excellence in applied research, hands-on teaching and industry outreach," Vickner said.

He earned both his MS and PhD in agricultural and resource economics from Colorado State University, an MBA in management from the University of Denver and a bachelor's degree in economics from Bowling Green State University. He began at UofL on Aug. 1.

The Equine Industry Program at UofL is an accredited business degree with an equine focus. Graduates can be found in all aspects of the industry, from training to broadcasting.
