Bevin Makes Appointments to Boards and Commissions

Gov. Matt Bevin has made the following appointments to Kentucky boards and commissions:

-- Harold G. Campbell has been appointed to the Kentucky Nature Preserves Commission. Campbell, of Richmond, is a retired banker. Campbell will serve for a term expiring July 1, 2019.

The Kentucky Nature Preserves Commission has five members all of which are appointed by the Governor. The Commission mission is to help conserve Kentucky nature preservations for future generations for the purpose of scientific research and education. The Commission also promotes understanding and appreciation of an unspoiled and unsoiled environment.

-- Tim Hatfield has been appointed to the Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky Board of Directors. Hatfield, of Belfry, is an attorney and will serve for a term expiring May 15, 2022.

The Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky Board of Directors is a 15-member body whose role is to advance and uphold the Foundation's charitable mission of addressing unmet health care needs of Kentuckians and who is responsible for the financial, program and policy affairs of the Foundation.

-- Charles G. Snavely has been appointed to the Southern States Energy Board. Snavely currently serves as Secretary of the Energy and Environment Cabinet and will represent the Governor's office.

The Southern States Energy Board is an interstate compact organization created in 1960 to enhance economic development and quality of life throughout the Southern states through innovations in energy and environmental programs and technologies. The board promotes and recommends policies and programs that protect and enhance the environment without compromising needs of future generations. Sixteen southern states and two territories comprise membership of the Southern States Energy Board. The Governor and a state legislator from the House and Senate of each member jurisdiction also serve on the Board.

-- Diane E. Whalen, Terry A. Rowlett, and Mark S. Smith have been appointed to the Animal Control Advisory Board. Whalen is mayor of Florence and will be representing the Kentucky league of Cities and shall serve for a term expiring February 26, 2020. Rowlett, of Campbellsburg, is a dairy farmer. Rowlett will be representing Kentucky farm Bureau and shall serve for a term expiring February 26, 2020. Smith, of Barbourville, is a veterinarian at Knox Co. Veterinary Services, Inc. Smith will be representing the Kentucky Veterinary Medical Association and shall serve for a term expiring February 26, 2020.

The Animal Control Advisory Board was established in 1998 by an act of the Kentucky General Assembly. The duties of the Board include making recommendations to the Commissioner of the Department of Agriculture relating to animal control issues, evaluating applications for disbursement of animal care and control funds, establishing shelter standards and creating training programs.

-- Cliff-Ed Irvin has been appointed to the State Board of Auctioneers. Irvin, of Lancaster, is a realtor and auctioneer and will serve for a term expiring June 30, 2020.

The State Board of Auctioneers administers the examination, licensure and regulation of auctioneers, apprentice auctioneers, limited livestock auctioneers, limited tobacco auctioneers and auction house operators.

-- Stephen A. Coleman, Kevin Jeffries, Kevin Rogers, Lloyd R. Cress, Jr., Earl Bush and John M. Dix have been appointed to the Kentucky Water Resources Board. Coleman, of Frankfort, is retired from state government and is representing Kentucky Farm Bureau and shall serve for a term expiring July 15, 2019. Jeffries, of Crestwood, is a self-employed farmer and is representing the Kentucky Association of Conservation Districts and shall serve for a term expiring July 15, 2020. Rogers, of Lexington, is vice president of operations for Kentucky American Water and is representing the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce and shall serve for a term expiring July 15, 2020. Cress, of Lexington, is an attorney with Dinsmore and Shohl, LLP and is representing the Kentucky League of Cities and shall serve for a term expiring July 15, 2018. Bush, of Brooksville, is the county judge/executive of Bracken County and is representing the Kentucky County Judge/Executive Association and shall serve for a term expiring July 15, 2019. Dix, of Bowling Green, is the general manager of Warren County Water District and is representing the Kentucky Rural Water Association and shall serve for a term expiring July 15, 2018.

The Kentucky Water Resources Board was created during the 2016 Regular Session by House Bill 529. The Board shall develop and provide EEC with recommendations regarding water use efficiency and develop a strategy to promote water conservation for all agricultural water uses.
