Yarmuth Donates Congressional Salary to Local Charities
Kentucky Ag Connection - 06/29/2016

Congressman John Yarmuth (KY-3) announced the 17 Louisville non-profit organizations that shared his 2015 congressional income.

Congressman Yarmuth has contributed more than $1 million to Louisville charities since pledging to donate his salary during the 2006 campaign.

"The increasing severity of our nation's income inequality means our communities must do more to ensure the most basic needs of working families, veterans, and seniors are met. Instead of rising to the challenge, the majority in Congress has taken resources away through the sequestrations and other austerity measures," Yarmuth said. "Louisville is lucky to have many wonderful and worthy non-profits doing the vital work necessary to keep our community strong, and I am fortunate to be in a position to support them."

He added, "I can think of no better use of my salary than to help the organizations picking up Congress's slack."

Yarmuth donated various sums to the following 17 organizations:

-- Center for Women and Families

-- Commonwealth Fund for KET

-- Family and Children's Place

-- Family Scholar House

-- JCTC Foundation

-- Jewish Community of Louisville

-- The Library Foundation

-- Louisville Fund for the Arts

-- Louisville Orchestra

-- Louisville Urban League

-- Louisville Zoo

-- Maryhurst, Inc.

-- Metro United Way, Inc.

-- Muhammad Ali Center

-- Planned Parenthood of Indiana & Kentucky

-- Simmons College

-- YouthBuild Louisville

Yarmuth's salary in 2015 was $174,000. He has donated his entire after-tax Congressional income to Louisville non-profits during his decade in the U.S. Congress.
