Laurel Receives $397,524 from Appalachian Commission
Kentucky Ag Connection - 04/19/2017
The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) approved a grant for $397,524 to London-Laurel County Industrial Development Authority in London to extend water, sewer, and transportation infrastructure into the Fariston Industrial Park.
"I am pleased the ARC approved funding to further extend water and sewer systems in Fariston Industrial Park in London," said Commissioner Sandra Dunahoo at the Department for Local Government. "Laurel County has experienced some growth over the
past decade, making infrastructure and development of water sourcing in the area a critical necessity."
"I thank the ARC for approving a grant for this much-needed project in London. Our region is rapidly expanding to keep up with Kentucky's business growth," said State Sen. Albert Robinson. "Fariston Industrial Park plays a key role in keeping Laurel County
competitive on a state and national level. I look forward to the completed project and the economic development it will bring to our community."
Initially developed by the London-Laurel County Industrial Development Authority, the Fariston Industrial Park currently has two occupied buildings with inadequate water system infrastructure and no storm sewer access. The project includes over 1,200 linear
feet of waterline and sewer line with a new 100 gallon-per-minute pump station. London and Laurel County have experienced a 10% growth in population since 2000 with many employees working in manufacturing
"The Fariston Industrial Park is a vital development for future business growth in Laurel County," said State Rep Jim Stewart III. "I'm pleased the ARC has invested further in building a water system that will yield certain benefits for years to come."
The ARC program and policy is to provide assistance for residential infrastructure project, water supply and wastewater treatment projects to assist in alleviating environmental public health concerns and ensure the acceptable quality of life for local residents.
