DOI Commissioner Elected to National Board
Kentucky Ag Connection - 02/18/2019

Kentucky Department of Insurance (DOI) Commissioner Nancy G. Atkins has been elected to serve as board member of the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR). Atkins was appointed Insurance commissioner on May 1, 2017, by Governor Matthew G. Bevin. As commissioner of the DOI, Atkins has the responsibility for the Commonwealth's insurance market, licenses agents and other insurance professionals, monitors the financial condition of companies, educates consumers to make wise choices, and ensures Kentuckians are treated fairly in the marketplace.

"Nancy will be an excellent representative from the Commonwealth of Kentucky,” said Acting Secretary K. Gail Russell of the Public Protection Cabinet. "She has a wealth of experience in the insurance market and that will serve the NIPR well.”

"I am honored to be able to support NIPR,” said Atkins. "This is an opportunity to serve and I look forward to working with the team of professionals and colleagues.”

Commissioner Atkins' tenure on the 13-member board is effective immediately and will continue for one year. Atkins is a member of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC); she is currently serving as a member of the Health Insurance and Managed Care (B) Committee, Financial Regulation Standards and Accreditation (F) committee and the NAIC Audit Committee.

The NIPR was established as a public-private partnership with the goal of streamlining the producer licensing process. NIPR provides a common database for participating states to access producer information, along with a communications network called Gateway that allows for the exchange of license applications, renewals, appointments, and termination information.
