National Day of the Horse Celebrates 15 Years

On November 18, 2004, United States Senate Resolution 452 Recognized Dec. 13 as National Day of the Horse and encourages the people of the United States to be mindful of the contribution of horses to the economy, history, and character of the United States, reports the Kentucky Horse Council.

It and other horse organizations extended their appreciation to all those whose who support and celebrate National Day of the Horse including the sponsors and co-sponsors of Senate Resolution 452 including: Ben Nighthorse Campbell, Day of the Horse sponsor; Governor Michael DeWine, Day of the Horse co-sponsor; The Honorable Orrin G. Hatch, co-sponsor and chairman Judiciary; Jack Kingston, Day of the Horse sponsor; and Mary Landrieu, Day of the Horse co-sponsor.

There are many ways to celebrate National Day of the Horse on December 13 and everyday--from advocating for horses with national organizations, being mindful of the character and contribution that horses have made to the U. S. for more than 500 years, and donating to a horse rescue or to a horse sanctuary to posting photos on social media #NationalDayoftheHorse and #DayoftheHorse, reading a good horse book or watching a classic horse movie, and writing notes to U.S. Senators and U.S. Representatives thanking them for their support of horses.

American Horse Publications created the website www.nationaldayofthehorse.com to share information about this 15th celebration. The website shares more than 50 horse-related books, movies, and other resources and will be available until Dec. 21.
